Short answer
Honeywell VISTA: enter your code and press CHIME (the 9 key). DSC PowerSeries: press * 4, or hold the Chime function key if your keypad has one. Repeat the same sequence to turn it back the other way. On touchscreens and app-based systems, look for a chime or bell toggle on the home screen or in sound settings.

Honeywell VISTA
- With the system disarmed, enter your 4-digit user code.
- Press CHIME (9).
- The keypad shows CHIME when it is on. Repeat to turn it off.
Only zones your installer set up to chime will chime. Usually that is doors and maybe some windows, never motion detectors.
DSC PowerSeries
- Press * then 4.
- The keypad gives three short beeps when chime turns on and one long beep when it turns off.
Touchscreen panels
- 2GIG GC2 / GC3 / Edge: a chime toggle is on the home screen or in the panel's settings.
- Qolsys IQ Panel: chime is under Settings, Sound; individual sensors can have their own chime and voice settings.
- Honeywell Lyric / Lynx Touch: chime is on the security screen or under audio settings.
Exact menu names change with firmware, so check your panel's user guide if you cannot find it.
App-based systems
Ring Alarm, SimpliSafe, Abode, and similar systems set entry chimes in the app, usually per device or per mode. You can often choose a different sound for each door.
Chime is on but one door does not chime
That zone may not be programmed to chime, or its sensor is not reporting. Open and close the door and check whether the panel shows it opening at all. If not, see sensor low battery or zones that will not close.
