Short answer
With the system disarmed, enter the installer code (factory default 4112) followed by 8 0 0. The keypad shows the first programming field. Exit with * 9 9, which lets you get back in later with the installer code. Avoid * 9 8 unless you mean to block code entry.

Installer programming controls how the panel reports alarms and whether fire zones work. Put the account on test, write down each field before you change it, and test with your monitoring company afterwards.
Enter programming
- Disarm the system. You cannot enter programming while armed.
- Enter the installer code, then 8 0 0.
- A fixed-word keypad (such as the 6150) shows
20, the first data field. Alphanumeric keypads (6160 and similar) show the field and its description.
If the keypad just beeps or shows an error, the installer code is not the default and you need the code your installer set, or the power-up method below.
Moving around
- * + field number: go to that field to change it. For example * 2 1 goes to field 21.
- # + field number: view a field without changing it.
- Zone programming, keypad addresses, and reporting codes have their own menu modes, described in the programming guide for your exact panel. Download it from Resideo's website before you start.
Exit programming
| Exit with | Result |
|---|---|
| * 9 9 | Leaves programming. You can re-enter later with installer code + 800. Use this one. |
| * 9 8 | Leaves programming and blocks re-entry with the installer code. After this, programming can only be entered with the power-up method below. |
The installer code does not work
VISTA panels document a power-up method: remove both AC power and the battery, restore power, and within about 50 seconds press * and # at the same time on a keypad. That opens programming without the installer code, unless the dealer has enabled a programming lockout, in which case it does nothing. See your panel's programming guide for the exact steps and timing, and expect trouble beeps while the panel restarts.
Once in, you can set a new installer code. On many VISTA panels it is in field *20; check your guide.
Common reasons people go into programming
- Changing entry and exit delays.
- Adding or removing a 5800-series wireless sensor.
- Turning off a siren that sounds on troubles, or changing the bell timeout.
- Setting up a new communicator after a phone line or 3G radio stopped working.
