Overview
The NX-548E adds wireless zones to a Caddx NetworX panel. It receives the 319.5 MHz ITI/GE/Interlogix sensor family: door/window contacts, motion detectors, smoke detectors and key fobs, with part numbers starting 60-. It connects to the panel with just three wires (+12 V, ground, data) and can mount inside the panel cabinet or in its own enclosure.

Troubleshooting
Check signal strength
After a sensor is learned, program location 200 in the receiver shows the signal strength it heard. The manual's rule: 6 or more is good; anything less means the sensor or the receiver should be moved. Delete and relearn the sensor until you get an acceptable reading, and only then mount it.
"Zone lost" or supervision troubles
- Replace the sensor's battery.
- Delete the zone and learn the sensor in again.
- Check location 200 for signal strength. Below 6, move the sensor or the receiver.
A sensor near the edge of range checks in sometimes and misses at other times, giving lost-zone troubles that come and go.
Reading the receiver's lights
| Light | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Green: off | No sensor signals being received |
| Green: short blink | A valid signal from a sensor that is not learned in |
| Green: long blink | A valid signal from a learned sensor |
| Red: off | No data communication with the panel; check wiring and power |
| Red: short blink | Normal communication with the panel |
Tripping a sensor and watching the green light is a quick way to tell a sensor problem from a programming problem.
Supervision windows
The receiver expects each supervised sensor to check in within a set number of hours, set separately for normal and fire sensors. The manual warns against setting either window to 1 hour, because that causes false trouble reports from every sensor.
Compatible Peripherals
- Panels: NX-4, NX-6 / NX-6V2, NX-8 / NX-8V2, NX-8E.
- Sensors: 319.5 MHz ITI/GE/Interlogix devices. The receiver's instructions list, among others, the NX-650/NX-651 door/window sensors (60-362-10/11-319.5), NX-480 SAW PIR (60-639-95), NX-490 wireless smoke (60-506-319.5), NX-495 rate-of-rise heat (60-460-319.5), NX-470 four-button keychain (60-659-95R) and NX-474/NX-475 panic buttons. Catalog examples: 60-362N-10-319.5, 60-688-95, 60-807-95R, 60-873-95.
- Alternative: an NX-148E-RF keypad has a 48-zone receiver built in and enrolls as a keypad, which matters on panels that take only one module.
Installation Notes
Learning in a sensor
- Press * 8 and enter the program code (factory default
9713). - Enter the receiver's module number (from its DIP switches, 32–39) and #.
- On a new install only: enter 9 1 0 # to load receiver defaults. This clears any sensors already learned. On an NX-8E, also set location 194 (the receiver's starting zone bank) before learning anything.
- Enter 0 # to open the learning location.
- Enter the zone number and press *. Three beeps mean the zone is outside the receiver's range or already has a sensor.
- Trip the sensor within 250 seconds and listen for the ding-dong. Most sensors are tripped by opening the cover to activate the tamper switch; check each sensor's own instructions.
- Repeat for each zone, then press Exit to leave program mode.
If you make a mistake mid-entry, the manual's way out is 0 # 0 *, then start again from step 4.
Zone numbering rules
- NX-4 and NX-6: wireless zones can overlap the panel's own zone numbers, but you can't also use a hardwire expander.
- NX-8: wireless zones can use the same numbers as the panel's on-board zones only if those on-board zones are disabled (panel location 37). Expansion modules must not overlap any block of 8 zones.
- NX-8E: wireless can go on any zone. If a hardwired input and a wireless sensor share a zone, the wireless sensor wins.
Mounting
- Inside the panel cabinet, leave at least 10 in (25 cm) above the panel for the antennas.
- Keep away from moisture, heavy metal and lots of wiring: furnace and utility rooms are poor spots. If metal is unavoidable, the antennas should extend above it.
- For a better spot, the receiver can go in its own NX-569 enclosure on an interior wall.
FAQs
What frequency does the NX-548E use?
319.5 MHz, the ITI/GE/Interlogix sensor family. Honeywell 345 MHz or DSC 433 MHz sensors will not learn into it.
Why does my NX-548E keep reporting a lost zone?
Usually a weak battery or poor signal. Replace the battery, relearn the sensor, and check its signal strength at receiver location 200; you want 6 or more.
