Overview
The VISTA-21iP is the VISTA-20P's internet-ready sibling. The zone capacity, keypads, and day-to-day operation are essentially the same, but the board has a built-in IP communicator with an Ethernet jack, so it can report to the monitoring company and connect to the Total Connect app over your home network without a separate module.

Error Codes
Keypad messages are the same as on other VISTA panels. See the VISTA-20P page for the full list and what CHECK means. Two matter more on a 21iP:
- FC / COMM. FAILURE usually means the internet path is down: the Ethernet cable is unplugged, the router was replaced, or the AlarmNet account is not active. See communication failure.
- AC LOSS during a power cut is often followed by a communication trouble, because your router lost power too. A cellular path avoids that.
Troubleshooting
The panel stopped reporting after a router change
The 21iP uses a wired Ethernet connection. Make sure the cable runs from the panel to a working port on the new router and that the router hands out addresses automatically (DHCP), unless your installer set a fixed address. Your monitoring company can confirm when the panel last checked in through AlarmNet.
The app says the system is offline
Total Connect relies on the same internet path. If the keypad works but the app does not, check the network cable and power to the router before anything else, then ask your alarm company to confirm the Total Connect service is active.
Everything goes offline in a power cut
The panel keeps protecting the house on its battery, but an internet-only panel cannot report while the router is off. Add cellular backup, or put the router and modem on a small UPS. See power outages.
Compatible Peripherals
- Keypads: 6150, 6160, and RF versions with a built-in 5800 receiver.
- Cellular: LTE-21 radios on the 21iPLTE; add-on AlarmNet communicators on other versions. See VISTA LTE communicators.
Installation Notes
- Programming, user codes, and keypad addressing work as on the VISTA-20P: installer code + 8 0 0. See VISTA installer programming.
- The IP communicator must be registered to a dealer's AlarmNet account before it will report. Plan that with your monitoring company before installation day.
- Run the Ethernet cable directly to the router or a switch. Avoid powerline adapters and Wi-Fi bridges, which drop out.
FAQs
Do I need a phone line with a VISTA-21iP?
No. The internet communicator can be the main reporting path, ideally with a cellular backup. The phone dialer is optional.
Can a VISTA-20P be upgraded to a VISTA-21iP?
Usually you would add an internet or cellular communicator to the VISTA-20P instead. Swapping the board is possible because wiring and keypads carry over, but the panel must be reprogrammed.
